POSITION: Community Support Worker
ROLE TYPE: Part-time
WORKING DAYS: c. 2.5 days per week
LOCATION: Midlands, including Midlands Prison, with flexibility to
work in Dublin on occasion

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
This is a part time position with specific responsibility for working
with clients within Care After Prison who are on the Community Support
Scheme (CSS). This role is supported by the Irish Prison Service (IPS)
as part of the Community Support Scheme and the Community Support
Worker is expected to adhere to Care after Prison working practices
and in line with IPS guidelines.
MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE
The purpose of the role is to engage with and support participants on
the Community Support Scheme and to support and facilitate the removal
of barriers to re-integration into society of individuals who have
been affected by imprisonment. The successful candidate may also have
exposure to other areas of CAP?s client facing work.
THE MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY ARE:
1. Client Assessment and Support
Main elements:
* Assess clients? barriers to returning to society in the context
of their whole life.
* Assess collaboratively with the client to see what strengths he or
she might have to build on to reduce recidivism.
* Carry out a risk assessment with clients to create the safest
possible plan.
* Work with clients to develop a holistic and in- depth work focused
action plan with defined activities which the individual client will
complete within agreed timescales
* Work closely and intensively with the clients to gain trust and
?buy in? to proposed actions
* Monitor, review and evaluate with clients the progress they are
making in carrying out their action plan.
* Liaise and discuss issues related to the client and the action
plan with the CSS team in CAP as required
* Liaise with other agencies and stakeholders to create effective
pathways for clients to services and support
2. Record keeping
Main elements:
* Ensure that data sharing protocols are strictly adhered to
* Provide timely and accurate progress reports, identify issues and
propose and develop solutions
* Provide weekly (and monthly) written update reports on progress
against action plans
* Keep all information relating to staff and service users
confidential in line with agreed policy
3. OTHER
MAIN ELEMENTS:
* Take a proactive approach towards your own training and development
* Actively contribute to supervision sessions
* Assist with data base maintenance
* Attend and actively contribute to weekly meetings with the IPS and
other key stakeholders as required
4. CAP TEAM MEMBER DUTIES:
* Keep clear, factual written records and provide reports and
information to the Executive Director, the wider team, Board of
Directors and outside agencies as requested
* Represent Care After Prison professionally, its ethos, values and
culture, in all dealings with people inside and outside the
organisation
* Promote a friendly, non-judgmental, anti-discriminatory attitude
in every aspect of the work.
* Create a culture where a new beginning is held in high regard and
seen as realistic and achievable, even if a lot of change needs to
happen in the meantime
* Assist in other aspects of the work of Care After Prison as the
need arises and to carry out any other reasonable duty as may be
assigned that is consistent with the nature of the job and its level
of responsibility.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

GARDA VETTING: As our work involves contact with vulnerable adults,
candidates under consideration for
employment with Care After Prison will be subject to Garda vetting.
REFERENCES: The successful candidate will undergo 2 reference checks
before commencing
employment with Care After Prison.

available.
